Josh, Colin, Andy, Mandy and Rachel from our Supported Living Services headed off to Haworth station for a trip on board the 100-year-old Flying Scotsman. It was all excitement in the car, with lots of giggles, despite the squeeze in the back!
Just moments after reaching the platform, all ready for an adventure, the Flying Scotsman arrived and everyone boarded to find their seats. There were a number of other passengers on the platform who were also excited at the opportunity to travel on this famous steam train.
The train made a stop for people to stretch their legs half way through the journey, but we were happy to sit and take in the whole experience. We revelled in the excitement and knew that we would be the envy to many as we watched out of the window at the people in fields and on bridges taking pictures as we chugged past.
At Keighley Station we headed for lunch at the Old Parcel Office, which was lovely – everyone treated themselves to a pudding apart from Mandy and Rachael, they were being good! The weather was very kind to us and so it was a real treat to have a little rest and watch the world go by before the next past of our trip began.
After lunch, everyone went down to the platform and waited to wave the Flying Scotsman off. Whilst waiting a Gentleman was entertaining people on the platform – he was very funny. Josh thought he was hilarious and was having a right old giggle!
It was on to another steam train for a visit to the Railway Museum to see all the old trains and have a sit down in some of the posh carriages that had appeared in films such as The Railway Children and Brideshead Revisited!
Colin had a go at being a steam train driver for a day and he absolutely loved it!
On the way out there was a chance to have a look in the shop, so we could buy a little souvenir to remember our day out. Josh and Colin bought a cap, Andy bought a cup, and Mandy bought a Pen for her collection!
It was a long day and everyone was very tired after a busy but fun and exciting day out. A good laugh was had in the car on the way back, getting home 7.30pm.
Everyone had a great day out. Andy has never been on a day out before and thoroughly enjoyed himself.
