Meet Sharon
Sharon has spent more than three decades dedicated to providing exceptional care and support for children. Her unique role at Caritas Care has allowed her to create innovative, therapeutic activities that cater to each child’s individual needs, using play as a powerful tool for healing and growth.
Starting her Caritas Care career as a residential support worker in a therapeutic children’s home, Sharon quickly became an integral part of the fostering team. Her deep understanding of children’s needs, combined with her ability to make a positive difference through humour, kindness, and empathy, has set her apart in the field.
From Residential Care to Fostering
When Caritas Care’s therapeutic children’s home closed in 2012, Sharon transitioned to the fostering team. Initially she was uncertain about the change, but Sharon soon realised that fostering allowed her to continue her passion for working directly with children. Her new role enabled her to maintain strong relationships with both the children and their families.
Sharon’s work isn’t confined to the office. She actively engages with both birth children and foster children, using play to build trust and foster understanding. Whether it’s organising group activities or working one-on-one, Sharon ensures that all children feel valued and supported.
More recently Children’s services have joined as one service and Sharon now delivers her work across both fostering families and adoptive families alongside other colleagues within a therapeutic Intervention team.
Supporting children through Therapeutic Life Story Work
Sharon is trained in Therapeutic Life Story Work, a method that helps children process their early experiences and connect with their behaviours in a positive and healthy way. This therapeutic approach is crucial in helping children form stronger attachments with their carers and navigate the complexities of their past.
Building a Supportive Community
One of Sharon’s many strengths is her ability to create a supportive environment not just for children, but for the foster carers. She works closely with foster carers, ensuring they have the resources and training they need to provide the best possible care. Sharon also leads activities that bring together birth children, foster children and adopted children, helping them build friendships and learn from each other in a fun and engaging way.
Commitment to Continuous Learning and Support
Sharon’s role at Caritas Care extends beyond direct work with children. She is also involved in training and supporting foster carers, ensuring they are equipped with the skills they need to foster. Sharon’s commitment to continuous learning and her hands-on approach make her an invaluable asset to the Children’s services team, children and their foster carers and adopters.
A Trusted Figure in Children’s Lives
To the children she works with, Sharon is more than just a figure of support and care; she is a trusted member of the team who makes them feel seen and valued. Whether through playful interactions or serious therapeutic sessions, Sharon is there to support them every step of the way.
Sharon’s ability to connect with children, understand their needs, and support them through their challenges has made a lasting impact on countless lives. Her story highlights the importance of compassionate, dedicated professionals involved with fostering and adoption and the incredible difference they can make to children, young people and families.
