Introduction

Joshua’s story is a shining example of how supported living can transform lives for people with learning disabilities. Moving from his family home to Caritas Care’s Supported Living Service in July 2018, Joshua’s journey showcases the benefits of personalised support and community engagement for individuals with learning disabilities.

Transition to Supported Living

After spending time at Beaumont Residential College, Joshua transitioned to Caritas Care’s Supported Living Service. Despite the initial adjustment period, Joshua’s strong family support played a key role. He continues to visit his family regularly and enjoys family holidays, maintaining a close bond with his loved ones.

Thriving in a Supportive Environment

Joshua is thriving in his supported living environment. He has developed friendships with his housemates and the dedicated support workers. This supportive network has been instrumental in his success and happiness.

Enjoying Activities and Community Engagement

Joshua’s weekly activity schedule is filled with fun and excitement. His favourite pastime is ten-pin bowling, which he never misses! Additionally, he spends one day a week at Caritas Care’s Day Service, Vision In People (VIP). Here, Joshua enjoys crafts, painting, and Friday exercise yoga sessions, all of which enrich his life with creativity and physical activity.

Joshua’s journey with Caritas Care’s Supported Living Service highlights the importance of personalised support, community engagement, and a nurturing environment in enabling individuals with learning disabilities to lead fulfilling lives.
