Susan was in her office, when there came a knock on the door
She looked up and was surprised to see Santa, head bowed and beard touching the floor
Santa looked up, a tear in his eye and said “Susan, I think I need you”
I’ve searched online for help and I saw Caritas Care’s social media
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer has the flu, his eyes are streaming and his red nose swells
Without him to pull the sleigh, we can say goodbye to jingle bells
It’s the most wonderful time of the year and I really must deliver
The thought of not achieving this is making me shake and shiver
We don’t just need a miracle on 34th Street, but to travel across every land.
“Don’t worry, Santa” said Susan “Caritas staff and service users will help, it’ll be grand!
The trustees should be fine with it, I’ll mention it to the board
We can help you Santa, of that you can be assured
Firstly , I’ll explain a little about how we work at our wonderful charity
You’ll soon realise, we can help you very easily
We have amazing central staff, without them we wouldn’t know what to do
They help keep everything running well, they are the Caritas glue
Managers work hard in promoting positive service direction
Meeting with their teams, offering visible support and connection
The children’s services teams believe no one should be left home alone
So they work hard to find families who can offer children a safe and loving home
At Plungy, stop here and you will find
A range of social groups, good for heart and mind
Café, foodbank, a warm space and a hot meal
Working hard to offer a real community feel
FX, a service full of fun and laughter, smiles on every face
Love getting out and about, wheels for all, the cinema and they even go to SPACE
VIP and Marian House, a lively and motivated bunch
Art and craft projects, yoga, gardening and on Fridays a chippy lunch
For some, to live independently requires additional support and care giving
So we have some fantastic houses in our service called supported living
And Vincent house in Blackpool, where winter can fill the homeless with dread
Offer a safe and silent night, warmth, support, food and a bed
We’ve got the transportation, risk assessments will be done
We’re big on Elf and Safety, taking care of everyone
Susan suddenly realised that Santa had gone really quiet
She’d spoken from the heart but wasn’t sure he was going to buy it
But when she looked up, Santa stood tall, his face bearing a huge smile
Offering choices, chances and opportunities, Caritas certainly go the extra mile
Caritas have helped to save the holiday
Now I’m feeling confident I’ve got help to pull the sleigh
I’m so proud to hear of all you do, how my heart swells
It makes me believe it’s a wonderful life. And I think I hear those jingle bells
Huge thanks to Sharon Bassa from our Fostering Team for her Caritas Christmas poem.
