The Children’s council which is a group of young people that meet at Caritas Care had made a decision to fundraise and chose to cycle the Guild Wheel to help raise funds to support the development of a new sensory/photography suite for our Learning Disability service the F.X project based at Bannister House, Preston
Caritas Care’s FX project is a day service offering personalised, individual care and support for individuals with a profound learning or physical disability.
Children, foster carers and staff from the Fostering team came together on a sunny Sunday in June the day to put the plan into action.
With a lot of team work, mini buses at check in points providing water and refreshments we all completed the 21 mile ride. It was a hot day and this made the ride a bit harder but ice lollies en route helped, thanks to Foster Carer Leanne. The route took the group through some beautiful areas of Preston but it also included the occasional steep hill (in Brockholes, for instance), which saw us all walking rather than cycling!
Rebecca Hughes, Fostering Team Manager said ‘We are immensely proud of the children for the time and commitment they put into organising and participating in the event. It was a very hot day, so was very challenging for them, but they all completed the ride and were all in good spirits throughout the day.
Everyone received a very genuine thankyou and a certificate at the end of the ride – completing it was a positive achievement for all those that took part and a well organised fundraising effort on behalf of Caritas Care.
The children were amazing and with the effort of these young people and families we hope to have raised in excess of £400 to go towards the building of the new sensory room at the FX Project. We are looking forward to the children being able to present this to the FX project and to have a small celebration in recognition of their hard work.
