Our VIP services were delivered a real treat on Friday 10th February when Jason Alston, a volunteer for North West Blood Bikes Lancs & Lakes, rode in on his bike to tell them all about the work they do.
North West Blood Bikes Lancs & Lakes is a charity providing out of hours transport to the NHS to collect and deliver urgent whole blood samples, platelets, samples for analysis, donor breast milk, patient medication and small medical instruments. The work they do helps patients to receive their treatment quicker as well as saving money on other forms of transportation. The charity was founded in May 2012 and since then has not only saved the NHS hundreds of thousands of pounds, but has provided over 32,000 deliveries to date.
Jason took the day off from his day job to come and see us with Ebony (one of the motorcycles) and all he asked in return was for a brew and a piece of cake which we were happy to oblige (a lovely Victoria Sponge made by our very own Becky Newton).
We took Ebony to meet our VIP’s who all took turns in having their photos taken on the bike. Jason spent a lot of time with us talking about the work he does and answering questions. The session was very informal and relaxed and everyone had a fantastic afternoon.
VIP followed this up with a session all about Blood Bikes and the fun they had meeting Jason!
