Fact: 1 in 6 adoptions in England in 2022 were to same sex couples.
Yet, we have found it astonishing that LGBTQ+ people are still facing discrimination when they wish to adopt- and completely understand why they may be reluctant to approach adoption agencies. However, we welcome LGBTQ+ enquirers and through the LGBTQ+ families we have worked with over many years, can see the strength and resilience that can be very evident in such families.
“The agency values diversity. There is no discrimination in relation to sexuality, ethnicity, marital status or religion. Prospective adopters value this.” Ofsted
At Caritas Care we actively we seek to recruit adopters from LGBTQ+ communities. We have learned that LGBTQ+ families have to learn to manage many challenges including discrimination and assumptions being made about them. The skills they unfortunately have to develop will be beneficial in adoption and particularly to the children currently waiting for adoption. We want you to know that we are still learning, but are very open to hearing what you have to say.
1, 2, 3 or more children?
We are committed to finding families for the most vulnerable children and the key to their future could be you!
Are you open to considering adopting a sibling group?
37% of children currently waiting for adoption are part of a sibling group. It is these children whom we are keen to find families for and, more importantly, keep them together. Imagine being separated from the only person/people (your brother and/or sister), the only people in the world who understands your story like you do. In a turbulent period of their lives, their sibling has been their one true constant. This is why we believe it is vital we do everything we can to allow brothers and sisters to stay together.
We have LGBT+ staff and many LGBT+ families who have successfully adopted through us. You can read their stories HERE
We are also a recommended agency by New Family Social and have a strong value base that welcomes and sees the value in all irrespective of gender, sexuality, race or religion.
Adoption is not for everyone and we will work in partnership with you to assess whether this is the right path for you.
We will support you every step of the way, so please talk to us if you are thinking about adoption.
