Oliver sets out to achieve life long ambition

Long time supporter of Caritas Care Oliver Bullock has signed up for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Liverpool Marathon on 28th May 2017.  A keen runner, Oliver wanted to achieve his life long ambition to complete a full marathon and at the same time raise money to support the projects and services provided by Caritas Care.

Oliver told us “I’ve been hooked on running since about 1995 and have done quite a few 10ks and other distances including Chester Zoo 10k, Manchester 10k, Longridge 7 mile, Great North West half marathon and then decided in 2003 to do one of the best known half marathons, the Great North Run. This was quite a challenge in many ways both physically and mentally especially as this was the year I got married so our schedule was a little crammed with wedding prep, running and full time jobs.

I have done about 4 or 5 GNRs and loved the atmosphere, comradery of runners helping each other through and their chanting off ‘oggy oggy oggy ugh ugh ugh!’ every time you go through a tunnel as loud as they can (it’s definitely a runner’s thing)!

After a break of about 2 years from official races (due to family commitments) my younger sister Emma talked me into running the Liverpool half marathon last May. I really enjoyed the race coming in at 2hrs, so decided to complete one of my bucket list items  and set myself the challenge this year to do a full marathon … we will see!

I’m in full training mode now! A normal week is made up of 4 runs with two easy runs (a pace you can talk at), a race day pace run and a long run to stretch the millage. It’s definitely a challenge trying to fit it around my family and could not do it without my wife’s support. The kids are becoming more aware of the run too, as I found the other day when one of the teachers came to me after school to find out what marathon I’m doing!”

Good luck with all your training Oliver!
